The City of County Rank of Kecskemét was awarded a grant in 2010 for having a feasibility study prepared under priority No. 3 of the improvement of regional accessibility in the Transport Operative Programmme (KÖZOP). FŐMTERV Zrt. became the successful tenderer, involving TRANSMAN Kft., Vibrocomp Kft. and M-POL Kft. as subcontractors.
The design task under the project required urban and transport planning based on the comprehensive processing of the entire set of economic, social, environmental goals and priorities of the city through the detailed study of the following areas of intervention:

  • Interventions on the approach roads to the city, which facilitate traffic flow and increase road capacities and traffic safety
  • Separation of transit traffic in the region from destination traffic through the construction of by-pass roads
  • Local interventions increasing the efficiency of traffic flow and enhancing traffic safety (construction, development and upgrading of junctions)
  • Application of ITS solutions (Intelligent Transport Systems) facilitating the efficient and safe utilisation of the existing and proposed networks

Under the design contract, the assignment included the preparation of the Detailed Feasibility Study of transport development concepts devised by the City of County Rank of Kecskemét and detailed in the previous concept, the substantiation of the feasibility of the projects, and the selection of the most appropriate alternative.
All these goals had to be achieved in such a way that they are in harmony with the aims of simultaneous tender work regarding ‘An intermodal railway station and related community development for the city of Kecskemét’.
The major milestones of the project, including performance, were as follows:

  • Planning, preparation and conducting of traffic surveys
  • Preparation of a pre-decision study
  • Delivery of detailed feasibility studies

As part of the completion of the assignment, traffic surveys and preference studies relating to the selection of means of transport were carried out, and FŐMTERV also performed macro- and micro-simulation modelling and cost-benefit-based and multi-criteria project evaluation.
