As part of the VITECO-FŐMTERV Consortium, our company participated, as commissioned by NIF, in the preparation of approval, detailed and tender designs for the development of Budapest–Veresegyház–Vác railway line No. 71 to also become a suburban railway.
According to the design assignment, approval, detailed and tender designs required for the development had to be prepared for the Rákospalota–Újpest (excl.)–Vác (excl.) line section.
With the upgrading of the railway line, the allowable axle load of the line increased to 225 kN. The planned speed attainable on the railway line was set, depending on the environmental conditions, at 60, 80 and 100 km/h. A double track replaced the current single track in the line section between the Rákospalota-Kertváros stop and the Fót Station. The development items listed above allowed the railway line capacity to be increased and, thereby, a small reduction in travel time. Furthermore, the designs provided a possibility for constructing a second track in the long term in the Fótfürdő–Ivacs section.
Level crossings were reconstructed, including several grade separated crossings. The condition of the railway structures was explored by a Class 3 bridge inspection. The bridges were reconstructed or refurbished on the basis of its findings and recommendations.
During design, a document preparing the acquisition of plots, including long-term development, and a Preliminary Environmental Assessment Document were prepared. Their results had an effect back on the proposed technical solutions.
The safety of railway traffic is ensured by a new electronic signalling system controlled from the Vác Traffic Control Centre. Electric heating was provided to the points in order to eliminate the effects of winter weather. A fixed-line basic communication network was upgraded. The design task included the upgrading of the catenary network providing electric traction and the remote power control system.
In order to establish the currently missing, modern passenger transport infrastructure, which meets today’s requirements, the construction of facilities, platforms, car (P+R) and bicycle (B+R) parks providing access for the disabled to passenger traffic facilities, was designed.
The car and bicycle parks were equipped with area monitoring systems. At every station and stop along the railway line, a passenger shelter or a station building, visual and audio passenger information systems and ticket vending machines serve the passengers. The area lighting network was renewed. Our designs also included the installation of area monitoring cameras in order to increase operational safety and property and public security.
Our company was responsible for designing the Rákospalota–Újpest (excl.)–Fót stop railway line section, and preparing the designs of road crossings (47 level crossings and three grade separated crossings) and P+R car parks (seven) required in the whole section and the utilities required for them.
